First of all, there should probably be a section of this forum devoted to actual bikes.
Second, I'm looking for opinions on what my new ride should be this year. I've narrowed it down to:
Yeti 575
Trek Remedy
Giant Reign
If anyone has experience with any of these bikes, please weigh in. I'm leaning towards the Yeti because I've always wanted one, but the other two really offer a lot of bang for the buck.
Thanks, and here's wishing for an early thaw!

Glad to see so many views of my post during the winter months, but no replies!!! Don't tell me FOTW members don't have an opinion?!?
I re-read my post and it sounds like I buy a new bike every year. I wish it were true, but in 2010 I'll be looking for something to join my 2000 Heckler in the stable. It's been a long time so help a brother out, would ya?

I have no riding experience on any of them, my brother demo'd a Remedy a few weeks ago and really liked it. The Reign is considered an excellent rig all-around.
I'm intrigued by the Banshee Spitfire, Transition Covert, and the new Kona Cadabra, which also seem to fall in the price/class of bike you are looking at.

I'm also intrigued by the Transition Covert. Reports on MTBR say it may be a bit flexy, but that could be an older model. The videos on their website are great, showing each bike model.
Where is your brother at, to be testing out a Remedy this time of year? Showroom floor at Earl's, maybe?
I'm still pretty hung on the 575, although my wish list has changed to omit the Reign and add the Fisher Roscoe. I just can't seem to wrap my head around the parts mix that come on the Trek company bikes.
Thanks for the reply. I can't help it, just like talkin' bikes.

I like talking bikes too.
He rode it at Earls...it was kind of a warmish day. He managed to have a pretty spectacular crash in their parking lot. Didn't damage himself or the bike too badly I don't think.
The 575 is a classic, for sure. I rode an AS-R back when I was shopping for new wheels a few years ago and loved it. It was just a bit out of my justifiable price range, so I went with the bike that I had the most fun on, the Kona Dawg.
The only other full-sussers I have experience on are my brother's VooDoo Ogun and his Commencal Meta 666VIP. But, both of those are on the freeride side of the trailbike spectrum (although the Commencal pedals decently with an RP23).

wsanderson...you are partially to blame for getting me stoked on the Covert. I'm going to check one out tomorrow, local rider owned, and another this weekend at Chuck's Bikes in Morrisville. I'll post up my findings. I really need to figure something out soon, so I can spend at least a small percentage of my life on other things, like family and work! ![]()

Ha!
Don't hate me, bro!
I think the Covert looks pretty badass, myself. Definitely let me know what you go with!
I'm picking up a new fork for my Dawg this week (2010 Rock Shox Revelation Dual Air). Hoping to save a little $$$ and get a new wheelset this year too!

I'm riding a set of Mavic Crosslines on my SC Heckler, described by Mavic as a budget freeride wheelset, but they are pretty respectable weight wise. They are stiff but give you some feedback, too. I like them a lot and they don't break the bank.
Transition makes wheels, too. If I go with the Covert, I'm gonna throw their RevolutionAM wheels on it. They get good reviews, are fairly light and inexpensive.

I'm currently leaning towards the Easton Havoc AM's. You can buy '08 models for about 50% off MSRP. I'm thinking 10mm thru-bolt rear and 20mm thru-axle front.
I'd never heard of the Crosslines...I'll have to look into those. The Revolution AM wheelset is also a contender. Nice wheels for the price.

I own a Covert V.2 if anyone wants to give a Small frame a test ride. Heckler1 already did - might as well offer to others, too.
On the wheel front, I've been super happy with the Crossmax SXs. They're money, but hold up real well and are light.
