Since Eric’s departure, you might be wondering what’s going on out there.
Who’s reading emails, who’s updating Trailforks, who’s checking on social media, and the biggest who of all, WHO is doing trail work!?
Well, here is a quick update on our operations. All emails and trail reports flow through me (hi, it’s Adam the Director punching these keys). I typically pass these on to trail crew.
On social media, you are most likely connecting with one of our board members, Stef, who also sends reports along to me! Now, time to talk about our crew coverage.
We have networked with some folks within our community to build coverage this year. We felt like this was a lighter lift than hiring a new trail manager part way through the season.
We are pleased to share that there are a lot of qualified folks in our community that bring real trail work experience. We have two returning crew members and a new crew member as well. Here is the roster:
Bo
An Essex resident and a lifetime user of our trails, Bo (featured above) has a season of experience with Bolton Valley and is now entering his 4th year of trail work with FOTW.
Bo knows our networks and knows our methods. He will be chipping away at little projects around the networks doing drainage and tune-ups a few days a week the rest of the season. Did you see that washed out section on Outer DH at Saxon? Well, Bo is on it!
Joe
A couple years in grad school and Joe is sticking around. Joe is signing on for a 3rd season of work with FOTW. Joe brings a lifetime of trailwork and saw experience to our crew.
Joe has trail crew experience dating as far back as 2012 and over a decade of experience with hotshot forest firefighting. This combination of experience brings confidence around a saw for dangerous tree felling as well as hand tools.
Many of the tools and methods developed for trail work are fire tools at the core. Joe has helped elevate our rock work and methods the past two seasons!
Schreib
Schreib: You might know Schreib as a Little Bellas program lead and mentor, but there is a lot more you might not know! Schreib brings a wide depth and breadth of skills to our trails.
Beyond cycling mentoring, Schreib has years of experience in farming, winter sugaring, trail maintenance, excavation and saw experience. Schreib helped build the Westford Bike Park and Hotdogger at the Driving Range with Mountain Trailworx and spends free time maintaining Skully’s and Wiley’s adjacent to Cochran’s.
Schrieb seems to be everywhere, if you look hard enough (including the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame!).
