A new forest management plan was adopted by the Hinesburg Select Board in 2018. This Forest Management Plan calls for the harvesting of timber from the HTF in order to increase species and structural diversity, increase the resiliency of the forest, improve wildlife habitat, capture value in mature and declining trees, and reduce stem density. This harvesting will be overseen by Chittenden County Forester, Ethan Tapper, who will be using the prescribed harvesting to demonstrate responsible forest management. The harvest will be marked by Tapper and cut by Hinesburg logger Tim Brown over the next two winters. This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for us to highlight how how forestry and trails can be complimentary, so check out the forest walk we are co-hosting with Tapper on December 16th if you want to find out more about this project.
We will be gathering at the Hinesburg Public House after the walk to warm up, chat and enjoy some food and drink.
**We will be meeting on Economou Road at 1:00 PM. If you can, park at the Hinesburg Town Hall and carpool, since space is limited.**
